2012 is here...A year of limitless possibilities!

So I haven't updated this blog in quite some time... I've actually been having a love affair with Tumblr (www.tumblr.com/theflawlesslife), and he has certainly swept me off my feet! Lol! But I couldn't continue to just move on and not acknowledge the past.

This has also been a consistent theme entering the new year. Our past has purpose...ignoring it, suppressing it, or running from it only prolongs dealing with an issue. And until it is truly dealt with, we can count on it to resurface. I am learning to appreciate frustrating moments, for this is where the growth happens. If everything was pleasant all the time, how would we ever really be able to recognize or appreciate the beauty in those moments? I have made a huge effort to study myself in 2011, and I am ecstatic about the strides that the creator and I are making.

Those who know me, can see that I'm changing. Those who don't know me still appreciate my story. And those who don't know themselves, may have a problem with who they think I am. One thing is for sure, if you make an effort to know and study yourself... you can never truly understand others. Once we find understanding we can react less, and make better and more reasonable decisions in the future. I'm finding life to be astoundingly simple...it is ourselves that make it so difficult.

So with all that said, I am fearlessly stepping into 2012!!! And I am so thankful to have the support that I do! From God, Family, Friends, and Supporters like anyone who's reading this now. :) I look forward to continue sharing my journey with you! And I wish us all the absolute best in this new year! This Thursday, I will have the sincere pleasure of working with an artist I have admired for years! I have admittedly labeled myself as one of her "groupies", and further more proud of it! She has produced images that have literally taken my breath away...yet and still consistently leaving an heir of mystery, in photo and in person. There are many you can say that you like their work...there are few you can say you respect their art. Moye is that artist.
So when she posted a photo special for only $65!!! OH! a sista had to jump on that!!!! LOL! (You just don't get work like this for that amount of money) And as much as I would like to keep it all to myself, I thought I'd be nice and share it with y'all. :) So you don't have to be jealous when you see my new pics...you can just get your own! LOL!;) But in all seriousness...this is a gift, to share her art this way. To give us a cost effective way to share her talent... I totally dig it and...Respect it! I'll be sure to post the pics...but most def, get your own!

I absolutely love the fact that my career path has so much flexibility! One day can be a photo shoot, the next a wedding, or even freelancing for a company. This was one of those right place at the right time opportunities! I was actually just chillin and my girl called me up...said the MUA on this project flaked and they needed somebody asap! Luckily I was there to save the day! And look how cool! A commercial for Enso! Actually did a little hair on this gig too. A Present Moment...

Well! It's been a minute since I've just written what's on my mind...so here goes it! :)
Life sure is a fascinating journey! I never...EVER...thought I would be here, at 30 years old. When I was a little girl my vision of me, now, was no where close to this. But the fabulous thing about it is...I'm happy. :)

Single...no children...make my own money...pay my own bills(most of em anyway!) and doin my own thang. I think I'm finally ready to just step out and enjoy life...every unpredictable moment! The past 3 decades have been about other people... long term relationships, family, toxic friendships, etc. I've had my fair share of life's hard blows, some to knock the wind outa me quite frankly! lol But, I have been blessed in the process of God guiding me through the tests, to get to this very point...I am finally strong enough to do it on my own. In fact I always have been...I just needed to see it on my own! ;)

I'm so ready to go after exactly what I want, to manifest the destiny that belongs to me. To get the man I want, reach the level in my career I want, have the family I want, and live the lifestyle I want. And it starts here...I will accept no less than exactly what I want. Because I deserve it, and I'm willing to work hard for it...and though it may be taking a little longer than I ever dreamed as a little girl. God knows, it'll be worth the wait! ;) Shouts out to the 30 something's who aren't where they thought they would be...but doin just fine!!!

Many people ask me "Well, what do u do? Weddings and stuff?"... Here's a small window into what I do...a day in the life. Behind the scenes of a commercial shoot with photographer Thien La www.thienlaphotography.com. and the video is by Tarik Freitekh. Amazing job on all sides! I often say, in a real shoot....everyone has to play their part to 100 percent! The hairstylist, the mua, the photographer, wardrobe, etc. This is one of those moments, and look how fabulous it turned out! Hope you enjoy this as much as I did!!! Comments are welcome! :)

These days, society is filled with a plethora of things to enhance outer beauty. As a makeup artist, I've seen more product lines than there seems to be faces for. There team of experts will be sharing empowering info on health, wellness, fashion and beauty! For an entire

day, Charlotte women will have an opportunity to learn, network, get pampered and learn how to

live more balanced lives. Attendees will also be treated to luxurious door prizes and raffle items,

The essence of this event is to make it fun and to take out the stereotypical "stuffiness" out of the mention of a "Gallery Crawl".

Jumping the Broom and Jones Magazine

I had the pleasure of a much needed girl's night out and a chick flick, when I went to see "Jumping the Broom" courtesy of Jones Magazine last week! The movie was absolutely fantastic! And the cocktails after didn't hurt either! ;)

The movie was written by TD Jakes, with characters like Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Pooch Hall and that fine ass Lil Romeo! (who made me question the "cougar" thing quite a bit throughout the movie, lol) It touched on so many issues that everybody can relate to...love, deceit, lust, religion, family. It truly had all the elements! And it wasn't corny or over the top...I thought they did an awesome job of keepin it real! There really isn't anything bad I can say about the movie...guys can watch it without questioning their manhood, women will love every minute! Their wasn't a lot of cursing or vulgarity and there's lots of eye candy! lol Hair and makeup were on point too! Well written, directed and executed...and everyone played their part to a T!!!

Totally worth the money! I vote 2 thumbs up! I was straight bein the chick in the theater yellin at the screen! lmao!( Public apology to all those around me! lol) So I won't tell anymore...you've got to go see it! Leave a comment after you do! Kisses! ;-*

The premise behind it is that women read blogs and reviews all of the time on the latest and hottest products...we wanted to give women a chance to experience them! What makes this event so special, is that these brands come from a variety of places...from local to international! Rain Cosmetics (official beauty sponsor of Miss USA), Kahina (skin care line from Morocco), and Impact Cosmetics by Stanley Owings are just a few of the brands that participated.

The entry fee to the event was a wardrobe donation to Dress for Success, and Candice Johnson of CJ Wax Studio was our esthetician on site, answering questions and helping with demos! Summer Makeup...How to keep it fresh!

Summer is close by! And the heat is rising, and if your not educated about it...your makeup will be melting! I have a few tips to share about what to do in the Summer months when its comes to makeup.

Tinted Moisturizers are great in warmer climates! They are sheer and light, and give just a little color to even out the skin tone. You can even make one, by combining your favorite moisturizer and a little liquid foundation. Lots of product lines have them these days, so you can find the just about anywhere. Make sure yours has SPF! ;)

Pro Longwear Foundation by MAC Cosmetics is a great product! Guaranteed 15 hours of wear! Helps control oil throughout the day, and is great in any weather. This product is great for brides too! It can be an investment for some, but well worth it!

Fix + and Evian Spray... these are great to start and finish makeup! Give the skin a quick spritz before your makeup, to give the skin a quick drink of moisture and add those nutrients like cucumber extract and green tea, which calm the skin. Then after you makeup is completely done, spritz all over to set the makeup and take away a heavy powdered look. *You can also put them in the fridge and use them as a quick refreshment on hot days at the beach or pool*

Loose Powder... an oldie but goodie! This is a key step that many women miss! And will make a huge difference in the longevity of your makeup. After makeup is completely done, take a big fluffy brush and encase the full face with a light layer of loose powder. (I prefer those with a little color verses translucent, so you don't get an ashy cast or white splotches that only show up in pictures). This will keep the makeup from breaking down as quickly throughout the day. Use it once, and leave it at home...it can get messy carrying it around in your makeup bag.

Pressed Powder...is where your purse comes in! This is what you keep with you to touch up during the day. Blot the t-zone when your feeling a shine coming on. And this will help to refresh the makeup and keep it in tact, compared to taking a tissue and taking more product off of your face.

So this is the "All Star Race" commercial that I worked on for NASCAR!!! A wonderful opportunity! Its so funny to me...in this industry you get surprises all the time! We put fake mustaches, chops, and beards onto the drivers. I also had the pleasure of doing Mike Helton's makeup...he is the CEO of NASCAR (A multi-million if not billion dollar industry I might add). Was definitely a fun gig! :) Here are a few behind the scenes pics...

See makeup is a critical part of tv, film and editorial work! It can really make visions come to life! Not just beauty and pretty all the time. So when I tell people this is what I do for a living, they assume I work at a counter. Oh! On the contrary! ;) We do it all! ;)

Here is the segment that I did on Fox News Rising this morning! This is the 2nd time and I really enjoy my little 5 minutes of fame! :) Betchya didn't know I worked in News for 3 months of my life! lol! Anyhoo! Here are the tips in writing for "A fresh start to your Makeup Kit"...What to toss and What to be sure you have!

Expiration dates... beginning from the time you first open these products

Powders and shadows: 2 years
Cream shadows: 12 to 18 months
Foundation: 1 year
Lipstick & lipliner: 1 year
Mascara & eyeliners: 3 months
Makeup brushes: Clean weekly ...depending upon use
Makeup sponges: Replace weekly, or when sponge becomes soiled

Best ways to tell when a product is old:

Smell your cosmetics...if they have an funny odor, they may contain bacteria and should be thrown out.

Always make sure that products are closed tight and stored out of sunlight, as this can destroy the preservatives.

If there are any changes in color and texture, Chuck it ASAP!

Must Haves for 2011:

A good moisturizer

Cream or Stick Foundation

Blush and/or Cheek Stains

Lipstick or Stains

Mascara

Do guys even try anymore? Social Networking is too easy...

Is it just me? Or when did facebook and social networking become the way to some instant booty for the night? I am often amused at the braveness of men behind the comfort of a computer screen... I'm sure I am not the only female who gets the ever so often "Hey" or "You cute" on your instant messenger. Or the ever so annoying "poke" on facebook. Wtf does a "poke" mean anyway...and why do some people poke you if your not even facebook friends? 0_o

Now don't get me wrong...I don't blame a brotha for trying...but my point is after "Hey" Ima need you to have something to say!!! And "Was gud?" or "What up" are not quite conversation starters. It seems if you are actually interested...you would say "How are you today" , "What are you doing this weekend" or somethin! Most guys who have hit me up have nothing more to say after "hey"...like seriously...dead air! And if you ask them a question they give you some vague answer as if you are prying into their business! lol I'm thinking...dude! You hit me up, and clearly want to talk to me! Now you have nothing to say? You need to do a whole lot more than chat with me on facebook to get my attention! And even more to keep it! *snaps fingers*
Just because I added you as a friend does not mean that I liked you! Are dudes really that simple until you don't look at anything else about that person but their profile picture? I mean do you look at their relationship status? their occupation? kids? siblings? friends in common? Anything!? If not...you should...you could probly stop wasting a lot of people's time including your own. I personally have a business so I normally add just about anyone. But I've come to be a little more selective lately...because of this foolishness! I even changed my relationship status to married (and no I'm not married) ...just to try and eliminate the irritation.
Point blank... I should be able to take a cute picture, and make myself available to clients and potential clients on fb chat...if I freakin want to! And not have to worry about some lame dude...hittin me up and having nothing to say! Facebook can be great for meeting people, finding people and networking...but the fellas are getting a bit out of hand with this. And to whoever the females are that this works on...please stop!!! You're just making it worse for all of us...you deserve more! ;) Smooches! ;-*

Our First Product Review...Naturally Me by Chaundra Smith

I had the pleasure of reviewing my first product here on my blog! I am so excited to share this info with everybody! I have enjoyed using these products over the past week!

Naturally Me has all natural, vegan certified products for your body, hair, home and pets! Naturally Me's Website The owner Chaundra Smith sent me their awesome Foaming Facial Wash and a Sampler set of products that came in the cutest little package that you ever did see! ;)

I have been using the Face Wash for about 7 days now and have completely fallen in love with it! It creates a thick, rich foam which I love (I love a good lather! ;)! And its infused with essential oils like tea tree and coconut... I love the invigorating scent in the morning! (Don't I look invigorated! lol Don't tell anybody u saw me this early in the morning! Bonnet and errthang! lmao!) The organic ingredients are great for my acne prone and sensitive skin...and makes me feel squeaky clean after removing make up! Priced at 8.99... this is definitely a winner!

I really doubted myself and my artistry for a while. Whenever you put your art on the line to be critiqued...there will definitely be someone there who will not like it...and will absolutely tell you! lol

I believe there are definitely general rules to follow...but I continue to pride myself on individuality! As a true artist...none of our work should look the same. As long as I like what I did, and it fulfills something in my soul...no one else's opinion really matters. :)

I have prayed over speaking about my whole experience in New York. All I can say is that New York was a life changing experience for me. I learned so much...and not in any way that I expected to. I came back home soaked in disappointment. Close to tears every time someone even asked me about the trip. The specifics of the negative aspects are not necessary. Now that I have had time, prayer and clear thoughts to reflect on the full of the experience. It has changed my life in so many remarkable, wonderful, and fabulous ways!! God showed up in my life! Protected me like a father! Blessed me with opportunity! Showed me the true value of my life and everyone in it! I went to New York with intentions of going to the next level in my career... I had no idea that it was truly to reach the next level spiritually.

I left Charlotte with my nose in the air, unappreciative and spoiled with what it had to offer. I just knew that I had reached my limit here... I was above this silly, country, city. The same place that offered undying support from loved ones... the same place that sowed seeds into my journey...the same place that had provided me every opportunity until then...

To arrive in New York City, a foreign place, where people barely new my name... And certainly didn't know who I was...and more importantly, could care less. Unfamiliar territory...subways, and buses, and walking for blocks. People with hardened faces, cold spirits and bags that weighed them down. Literally and figuratively. Everybody hustlin! Just tryna make it...to the next level...a rat race. In a huge city...with huge rats! lol! Not even the pigeons there care to say excuse me, getting all up in your personal space! I had to adapt, to a cold stare, as not to show emotion or thought...not as if anyone would have cared...but not to appear weak or "country". All this to a woman who is used to strangers who say good morning! To cars that stop in the street and let you pass by as they wave. To people who know its customary and "good manners" to say please and thank you. Now I'm not saying that there were not nice people there, because there most certainly were! But the city, as a whole, was not... nice. Just so happened the woman I connected with the most, was from North Carolina! lol. I never realized how long 9 days were...until then. To be away from home...from true love. 9 days to never feel...at home. Can you imagine that half the people there are not at home...majority are not even American.

I came back to my city. To my loved ones...to the ones that love me. Truly. As I walked into MY Apartment, just to gaze on what was mine...my friend Johnatha had put up balloons and streamers and flowers. I collapsed to the floor in tears. They were tears of joy, of frustration, of release, of thanks. That I had that! I had real friends, I had real love, I had a home. I think somewhere in the experience of New York, I almost forgot what it felt like...God reminded me. What I have here is so much greater, than anybody's idea of what success is. My appreciation is renewed and restored. God is simple, we make life hard...I am thankful...and that makes the experience more rewarding than anything a person could ever give me.

Forgiveness...

Forgiveness is a word and act that I have been presented with in many forms over the past few months. By nature, I have been a grudge holder. Even since I was a baby! LOL! My parents told me stories of how as a baby they could do something to upset me...and I wouldn't laugh when you tickled me for weeks after! Just grunt! (Crazy huh? lol) I personally have been very careful over the years, of who I let close to me...because I know how sensitive I can be. So when one who is close to you does something to hurt you, it is truly devastating. It hurts to the core, and breaks your heart. There is nothing worse than when a friend breaks your heart...much worse than a boyfriend or girlfriend.
But as my walk with God grows closer...Forgiveness is something I am presented with over and over. And I have already stated...its challenging for me. But I have also learned more about what forgiveness is, and more importantly, what its not. It's not about letting someone back in and allowing them to hurt you over and over again. And it's not about saying you forgive when you know you still harness feelings of regret or animosity. There is no time limit on the process... it is an individual journey.

The absolute first step is to pray. Forgiveness is God's specialty! So he will give you the words and the way to approach it. The key is to address to the person who's hurt you, what they did and why it hurt you. Number one making them aware, and Two, giving them a chance to take action. That way the air is clear, communication is achieved. Sometimes people really can't see themselves, so you can't be upset with someone who is not aware of what they've done (although people pretend they don't know all the time). At least you have made them aware, so there is no room for assumption on either side. If the person is not there...then tell God!
Once it's off your mind, it can be off your heart. You have to let it go...that is forgiveness!!! Not continuing to dwell on what they've done...no matter how bad it is!!! It is much easier said than done! And sometimes this process can takes days, weeks, months or years... pray about it daily until the burden of it is lifted.
I think the last aspect of this is where people get it mixed up, I know I did! Forgiving someone doesn't mean that you have to let someone back into your personal space, or into the same position they were in...it just means that you are no longer dwelling on the past. Ready to move forward, with no ill feeling towards them. Forgiveness is not about making someone else FEEL forgiven...its about giving the issues up to God, and loving in spite of. When you can smile and have peace about an unpleasant situation, and know that love is in you. But make wise decisions as to where to keep people in your life, after they've hurt you. The forgiveness is not about them...it is totally and completely about YOU!!!

The Freshness...that new new...

I've been saying i was gona write this for a while now..."The freshness"...that fluttery feeling you have for a new relationship. You know in the beginning...when you can't wait to talk to that person...can't wait to see them. When your eyes light up when you talk about them...cheeks flush...and have to look away in embarrassment because its written all over your face. When the texts make you giggle...like no one should giggle over a text. When you have sex so much that both of you are just plain sore. When you want to cook and clean for a nucca! Learn an recipe for some crazy dish you've never cooked before. When he takes you out to eat all the time and gain about 5pounds...but y'all can't even see it cuz that "love fog" is in the way. When you want to look good for him all the time and he wants all his boys to know how good you look...but that they definitely can't have you. When you totally dig someone! All of their shortcomings are of no matter...cause you just like them so damn much! That deep since of infatuation...you know the one...the "freshness"...right? Such an amazing feeling!

But my question is...how do we maintain it? The "freshness"? It seems that inevitably...the "freshness" fades away. A year later...Those giggling text turn into eye rolling texts. The cooking and cleaning becomes expectation instead of appreciation...if its still happening at all. The sex is still good...but no more all night and all day sessions...especially if both parties aren't getting what they need(wink). Sweat pants replace the sexy outfits. The 5 pounds you gained falling for them is now all they can see...and partly responsible for how "you changed"...are you getting my drift here? How is it that 2 people who once dug each other so hard...can barely get along?

Seems like relationships go through these phases of falling in and out of love. Some are able to withstand...I guess if there is a good foundation...some will rest in complacency...some will simply fade away. But every one of my friends male and female has said at some point "I remember when he/she used to...(fill in the blank)" . Why do we stop? Is it just laziness? Comfort? Loss of desire? Life changes? What is it that keeps us from doing the same things we did that makes you fall for a person? Or do you have to be willing to grow with a person? and be tolerant of change? What do u think?
This is not one I have an answer to...been reflecting on it for months now...looking forward to hearing your thoughts! :)

Joy Randall...A "Flawless" Explanation

I want to take an opportunity to clarify exactly what it is that I do as a Professional Make Up Artist, and exactly what Flawless Make Up Art is about! When I tell people what I do for a living, most often the response I get is "Oh, so you do weddings and stuff?" ...that gets a little frustrating 0_0. Actually, I am a freelance artist...I work for myself. However I do freelance work for different cosmetic companies such as MAC Cosmetics. I am also on L'Oreal's Pro Team ....I've done work with Cover Girl and Urban Decay Cosmetics in the past. I did begin my career in make up artistry at MAC Cosmetics and will admit to being a MAC baby! ;) That is where I received a lot of training and continue to freelance at local counters in Charlotte, NC when scheduled. (I always get the question "Do you work for MAC?") So as a freelance artist I can work for any company...and always looking for new opportunities to work with great product lines! ;)

Flawless Make Up Art is my company. It is an umbrella company for freelance make up artist. After realizing what I wanted to do...I created what I didn't see in my area. A business to support the artist and not just one cosmetic line. My theory is "It doesn't matter if the product is Wet and Wild or Nars...Its the artist that makes it look good! ". So many wonderful artist get stuck in the "counter rut"....and are never able to break away to take their artistry to its full potential! I help to support other artist by creating events for them to showcase their work, Nurturing the contacts I have to provide them with opportunities to build their resumes and portfolios, and by being a role model and leader in the beauty business. None of the artist that I support "work" for me ...they work for themselves. But, when you see the Flawless Logo, you understand its about make up artistry! Period!

Flawless Make Up Art is about make up in every since of the word. We do individual clients, editorial, print, runway, body art, special occasion, television, film and event work. We have hosted events such as "The Make Up Soiree", "The Lash and Brow Bar", as well as added our "Glam Bar" to different events as well. Women love to experience what each of our artist can do! And on any occasion, it becomes a chain effect! Once one woman has been touched by "Flawless", the ladies instantly fall in line to be next! To The black man...from the bottom of my heart

I need you. We need you...and most of all You need You!
To be the best man you know how to be...in fact better than you think you can be.
The natural order of things is for you to be the leader...and without your rightful place this society will continue to crumble. We need you.
Women are losing their way because there simply are not enough strong men to do the RIGHT thing, and take care of business! Whether that be take care of your woman, or take care of your kids, hell... both! They all need a strong man! There are so few already, and even less who can keep it real enough to be with a woman and keep his penis out of another.
What you don't realize is that the effects are much more than random booty calls and broken hearts. Black men and women don't even know how to have successful relationships anymore! Leaving impressionable young women to think that being "down for whatever" is the way to a man's heart, or being "be his lil freak" will get her more than one night. And also to mention the mature successful black women out here..late 20 and 30 somethings. With the career, the looks, Cook and Clean and ready to breed...but still single because they refuse to compete or settle for less. Why shouldn't a woman who has worked hard have a man who has at least what she does or better? Does that even sound right to you?
This is not to rag on the brothas, but just to send out a red alert! Y'all need to step it up! Kids need positive male figures in their lives! Women need to learn to be ladies again...this can only happen if you lead! Young boys and girls only know how to treat one another and be treated if they see it! If they never see positive relationships...how will we ever know what to do? Thas why we all messed up now!
Nobody said it is easy...but most of us know the difference between right and wrong. Lies and truth...emotions and logic. Let's stop making excuses for how slack we are because dysfunctional upbringings! If we make up our minds to be better...then that is simply what will happen. Without the leaders...there is simply nothing to follow. Its a lot of responsibility, but its yours! You were built for it! Take it! We support you...we. Need you.

The answer to the question...what looks good on me?

So Often, I get the question..."What will look good on me?" "What works on my skin tone?" "What makes (insert color here) eyes pop?" and to be completely honest...i really don't like that question! lol! I really hate to answer that!

Women get frustrated with me because I answer the question, with more questions! lol! At times I can sense their frustration...but my rebuttal is always the same, "What difference does it make if I like it, and you hate it?" If it's not you, its just not you!

I think the key is to first figure out what it is that YOU like...and then I can always give you my expert opinion on how to make it look "Flawless" on you! Think about it this way...If you say "What looks good on me?" and I say "Girl! this pink lipstick will look amazing on u!"...but you know good and well that you hate pink! You're not gona rock that the same as you would something you are more comfortable with. Part of looking beautiful is feeling beautiful, and being comfortable is essential in the process!
As the professional I can always show you the proper techniques in applying the products you love! This is the key to making make up "Flawless"! Application! The only way to find out what will look good is to give it a chance anyway! ;)

I personally never ask anyone if this looks good or that looks good...I just where what I like! And I'm confident enough to wear it even if I know some people won't like it...as long as I feel cute! Who cares what they think?! Check out a few of my looks! ;) *kisses* until next time! ;-*

I know! I knooooow!!! Its been forever since my last blog! But I really don't like to write just to be writing...I write about things that I am passionate about and really feel. After attending The Make Up Show in NY earlier this week...I feel rejuvenated!!! This industry has so many great things to offer!!! So many talented artist! So much product!!!!!! :) It was almost a little strange seeing all these beautiful people in one place...all looking like they worked at a MAC Counter, lol. There was so much make up and product lines that I have never seen before or only seen online! There were veteran artist of 20 plus years spittin their knowledge!!! That's when it dawned on me...there is so much more for me to do! Not that I have gotten comfortable at all (ambition is my addiction)...but its time to develop my gift into its ultimate potential!!!

The main thing that I took away is that there are soooo many great and accomplished make up artist!!! And 20 of those artist may have touched the same face, and made it look different each time...its not that one is better than the other, the key is visibility and location. I listened to many stories about the risks artist took to start there careers. Of course things were different 20 years ago...but the theme remains the same...what you really want, you have to be willing to go and get! By any means necessary! For the first time in my life I am considering making a major move. I won't use this opportunity to rag on Charlotte because I love this city that I'm from....but there is magical potential in New York (That just isn't in Charlotte)! My art can reach its full potential there...I can be challenged there....there is an appreciation there...I don't have to water anything down there. Everything is there to take my artistry to the next level, and that is where I need to be. I am refocusing my energy on this and hope to bring it to fruition within the next year!!! I appreciate any prayers and opportunities to encourage this!

I also had the chance to meet a great group of MUA's and one in particular...Lazarus Jean-Baptiste! Also known as "The Make Up Man"...he sat down with us and talked for almost 2 hours! He didn't know us from Adam...His energy was amazing! Not to mention he is a Uber accomplished artist(Vougue, Elle, Iman...yes! I said Iman, the model)! And this humble man shared his knowledge with women he didn't even know off the street! That! Is New York....God! If You Ask Me....I'm Ready...

Well the warm weather is kicking in!!! A new year is a quarter in and things are a changin! The new trends for spring are "Barely there" and what I like to call "Fresh Color"... Barely there is all about texture with subtle high lights and contours! No real color to the face...just simple tones to enhance the right points on the face and the perfect textures to make skin look touchable and Flawless! Let go of Studio Fix and try Studio Stick or the Mineralize Cream Foundation!
Well groomed brows, natural blush and unlined nude lips that are matte or have subtle shine will get you the look! Cremesheen Glass and Lip Pencils are awesome for this look!

Color has evolved! Gone are the days of blending 3 or 4 colors so each one is distinctively seen in one eye make up application! Now if you do see color on the eyes...its a sheer wash of one color with browns to blend it out. Bold mattes are hot too! Everything is not glittery is glistening on the eyes anymore. The color in the 80's is back but in a much more subtle way! Bold lips are also a great way to wear color with drama! (Like Miss Meagan Goode here and Nicki Minaj) Matte textures are coming back with a bange although shimmer is still standing strong. So get rid of Oh Baby and try out a Ruby Woo or So Chaud Lipstick or Up the Amp or even Vegas Volt!

A few artist tips for these looks!
* Use a kabuki brush for super blended foundation! Small circles all over the face for sheer and even coverage!
* For pastel and nude lips...lip liners are fab! Fill in the whole lip with a natural shade close to the skin tone for that Barely there look. Or use the pastel liners in the middle of the lip as a high light
*Cheek Stains are great for these looks! They add a hint of color to the cheeks with a dewyy look! A little goes a long way!

The Dark Side of the Biz...the One you don't hear about

I've been debating whether to share this with the world...and my sense of "keeping it real" just won't let it go! I get so many request from other MUA's or those wanting to break into the industry...and I often wonder if they can deal with this point of the business cycle. Working for yourself isn't always fun, and in this business in particular...it isn't always "pretty". Especially if you value it as an art form. Of course I always look like I have it together, and all things are Grand! But there is a dark side to entreprenuership...a lonely place that even those closest to you can't understand( but will hopefully respect). I am craving something to inspire me...evolution into the next phase of my artistry. I feel stifled, bonded, restricted. Something like an extreme asmha attack...like I jumped up in the air and was going at light speed and hit an air bubble that I am now suspended in. Im waiting for this bubble to break! So I can proceed at light speed again...

There are so many peaks and valleys to entreprenuership...adding the hi's and lows of being an artist to that are like little heavens and hells! Yeah! That's a good way to describe it...little heavens and hells! When creativity is flowing and your imagination is coming to life, that is heaven for the artist! You see the beauty in everything, and you want to share it with the world! You have something to offer the world, and you can't wait to bless them with it!
The flip side to that (this moment I'm experiencing) is when you don't feel challenged. When you can see the beauty in everyone else's stuff but your own. When you simply don't want to talk to people you know have absolutely no idea how you feel, and introversion settles in. When you are looking for any medium of inspiration, buying random magazines that catch your eye, listening to the same cd's and songs over and over again trying to get the answer, browsing the internet for that person who's story will give you life again. When every suggestion from those not like you sound stupid and redundant. This is the darker side...and when art is how you make your money, this is not good. But it simply...is.

I've learned to get comfortable with this phase of business and artistry. It's not the first time I've been here, and it definitely won't be the last. Its part of growth, as a person, an artist and business woman. I used to get depressed, but I now know it is only a moment...one that I can use as fuel to my fire. Its my inner self's way of saying "It's time for what's next". No one can tell me what I need to do...only I have the answers to the questions I have. Its all about learning what my soul is trying to teach me...and I am forever learning to listen intently. I don't know what's next...I just want to be ready!

The basics of selecting a "Flawless" Foundation!!!

Essence Magazine had a huge spread of all types of foundations to acheive that "Flawless" skin look! They are right there are so many options out now for women of color! We have come a long way from the days of just Fashion Fair(Shouts out to the homies)...but yet and still I receive so many calls, emails and tweets about how to match the right color for your skin tone. So I've decided to break it all down into a few simple steps into finding the perfect one for you!

1. Know Your Skin Type...The first 2 questions I always ask a new client is what their skin type is?, and what is their skin care regime? This is the basis of knowing what will look natural on YOU...Most fall in the category of oily, normal (which includes slight oiliness in the "t" zone) or dry.

2.Find your undertone...the best way to identify this is to look at your chest! This is normally a truer tone. Warm undertones fall under red, pink, and orange...Cool is yellow, gold, beige...Then there is Olive and Blue which are your very dark skin and extremely pale skin tones. Race is not biased here...across the board everyone has their own individual undertones.

3. Find the right formulation...powder, cream, liquid, and stick foundations even mousse can all look "natural"! It's all about application and choosing the right shade! Oily skin types tend to lean towards powders to counteract the oiliness that's already there. Normal can any formulation, and dryer skin types should lean more towards liquids and creams also to counteract. Oilies should stay away from foundations with shimmer or bronzer added to them, it will enhance the oily look and will break down much quicker. The same for dry skin and powder...powder foundations will settle into dry spots and enhance flakes and texture in the skin.

4 What look do you want?...matte, dewy, naturally powdered, a nice glow,or even just like skin! Are all looks that are achieved by different textures of foundations. The best way to tell is to look in a magazine or on TV, find out what you like about the persons make up? Does it look powdered with no shine? Does it look moist and dewy? This will help you to choose this ideal finish for your foundation.

5. Test the color...test the foundation color right at the jawline, where the neck and face meet. The right color will blend in like buttah! ;) You should not be able to see a distinct difference between the product and your skin. Also step back and look at it compared to your face, chest, and arms...it should work well with your whole self, and not just your face! It is normal for the face to be just a little darker than the neck and chest, so just be sure it all blends well

Last is finding a sheer or pressed powder to set your foundation with. The two go hand and hand! Setting your make up will help to keep it fresher, longer throughout the day...and it will also help with make up transferring onto clothes and what not. Not setting it makes a huge difference in all day wear! Plus you will need the powder to touch up oiliness in the t-zone...no need to put on foundation over and over again.

Break Ups to Make Ups...Or Just bad habits?

Break Ups Suck! Period! Most of us have experienced this in some shape, form or fashion. And I'm sure that men and women across the board would agree that they suck! Its already difficult enough to get to a place where love don't live here anymore! But its that grace period...that breezeway of time that makes you feel like you're "still in love with them", that I wanted to shed a lil light on! The late night phone calls (sometimes drunk ones), the passionate break up sex, the browsing through of old pictures and sentimental what nots...the "I want you back" phase. The topic of this blog is...Is it genuine? Or Just a bad habit? Because you do realize bad habits are hard to break?

There's nothing easy about sleeping alone when you're not used to it. There's no easy way to get used to not talking to the same person you talked to everyday. There won't be a replacement for the person that they were for you. These things will take time, and that amount of time will be different for each individual. When someone you love hurts you, it can sting to the core. Especially when it hurts enough to cause you to remove them from your life. It's only natural to want the comfort of that love back...to feel as if you can't live without it! Even if the love itself was abusive...physically, emotionally, or mentally. After all, the "love" became a part of your everyday routine. The first phone call when you get off work, dinner plans, friday nights and sunday dinners..who are you gona do those things with now?

When you have made a decision with YOUR best interest in mind...its often not an easy one to make. Most life altering decisions aren't. They're uncomfortable, they can be lonely and isolating, and simply hard as hell at times. But that inner voice will tell you what is real. As strong women we have to put our foot down from time to time! Women are nurturing, forgiving and loving creatures by nature. So when a woman is in love or should I say has love for someone its easy to forgive them when you want to see the best in them. Its Ok to forgive...as long as it is really deserved. All I'm saying is to make sure to ask yourself about what's real...you can't control other people, but you can definitely control yourself. Recognize the cycles in your life, and if something is not all the way for you, remove it! Life should be about progression and growth...not running around the same circles over and over again.

People will do what you let them do...just food for thought. Love Y'all! *Kisses* ;-*

Spring Pastels!!! Get you some!!! ;)

Spring is here!!!! Which means that its time for something new! ;) Out with the dark and sultry and in with the fresh and sexy!!! Yeah-ya!!! This Spring is all about pastels! And barely there make up!!! MAC has 2 new lines that reflect this trend! Too Fabulous, which I loooove! Full of wonderful new lip liners and the super moisturizing Creme Sheen Glosses! Plus new mineral blushes...Liberty Of London has great packaging...dat about it! *side eye* few new shadows and lipsticks...some beauty powders too. *shrug*

Pastels can look great on everyone! But it takes a little more work to make them pop on darker skin tones! But never fear! The "Brown Girl Specialist" is here!!!!

The main concept is to find warm, neutral browns to blend out the pastels so they blend for your skin tone! In each area of the face you can find this color that works just for you so that you don't have to be left out of this Spring's hottest trend!
For the eyes you want to find a brown shadow with a red base, more than likely a matte texture...one of my faves is Brown Script by MAC!!! Use this in the crease between you highlight and lid color with a blending brush...
For the cheeks I still love my Tarte Cheeck Stain in Sunkissed...or you can try a dab of cream blush in a deep red like NARS Turkish Red...start with these as a base and put your pastel powder blush over top. Other wise those light colors will just look ashy on darker skin tones
On the lips, liner is the key!!! But not like it used to be...Filling in the lips with a warm brown like Cushy Cremestick pencil by MAC...or go for it with the gloss of your choice, then blend it out with the Cushy or Classic Chestnut pencil for a natural look without the harsh lines! ;)

Every brown girls "neutral brown" will be a little different since we come in so many shades and tones...but as soon as you find it! You have they key to not only pastels but any color you never thought you could wear! Have fun! Practice! Kisses! ;-*

A Romantic Look For Valentine's...

A Client just inspired me to give a few tips for a "Romantic" Valentine's Day look!! Here are a few suggestions...
Men tend to like a natural look...so for V Day, the key is to look effortlessly beautiful!
Skin: Cover mini imperfections with a sheer concealer...then blend it out with a mineral powder. Take a soft brush in small circles all over the face... I like MAC Cosmetics Moisture Cover and Mineralize Skin Finish
Eyes: Keep it supernatural...or dark and sultry! You can go sans eye make up, with perfectly groomed brows, and a little eye liner. Fill in the brows and pop them out by placing a dab of concealer(one shade lighter than your normal color) right under the brow to highlight. Use a liquid or cream liner on top and bottom to complete the look...you can even go for a cat eye for extra flare! ;) Or go completely opposite with a hot smokey eye! Dark browns are a little less intense with just as much sex appeal!!! Line with black liner on top and bottom, and you've got bedroom eyes! Try Galapagos By NARS..dark brown with gold sparkles! I die!

Cheeks: A nice subtle cheeks is a must for the evening...something to bring that natural flush to the face. Stains and creams are great for this! Mineral Blushes give a great glow as well! Darker skin tones should start with a red tone cream and then balance it out with soft pinks or coral powder blush over top. Of course my fave is Tarte Cheek Stain in Sunkissed...MAC Lovething Mineral blush is awesome or go for NARS Orgasm blush for that after sex glow!!! ;)
Lips: Gloss those lips up!!! Men love that "wet" look...makes em' just wana kiss ya ;-*!!! MAC has some great new colors that I really love! Light that Fire LipGlass...and any MAC Dazzleglass overtop will give you the perfect kissable pout! I have also fallen in love with Tarte's lip glosses too! All natural! Feel and even taste great!!! ;)

Social Networking...Don't get it twisted!!!

Social networking can be equally bad as it is good, wack as it is fun, and addictive as it is restrictive! I think we can all vouch for moments were social networking has gone terribly wrong. I have recently been taking notice to the "false sense of friendship" that it can give and the "boldness" it gives it users who would not normally have it in a face to face situation. So of course...I felt the need to blog about it. Purely my thoughts...

Friendship is something that I take extremely seriously! It is not a word that I use lightly either. It takes years to get to really "know" people!!! A year at the absolute minimum! And don't get me wrong,social networking online is great for networking and easy introductions! However, being one who is in the public eye...I find that social networking has blurred the lines of what real friendship is. Just because we may chit chat on facebook or have a few back and forth tweets on twitter doesn't make us "close". Especially when it comes to business! It seems that people feel just because we are "facebook friends" that you shouldn't present yourself at your professional best! Resumes, formal letters, and meetings still hold weight! Its also not an excuse to address someone without some formality. So no, I will not "pass your info along" to anyone that I have built a professional rappor with, when I haven't even met you and shook your hand in person! How do I even know that you are really what you represent online? The computer allows people to create personas, of how they want to be seen verses what and who the really are. Which brings me to my next point...

People say and do things online they know they have absolutely no nerve to say in person!!! Guys trying to hit on you over instant messages, rude comments on your photos or statuses, tacky emails, and the list goes on... Trust and believe that I am every bit of me in person as I am online! People never cease to amaze me at the things they say online, and not sure if it is just my experience but it is becoming increasingly worse!! Especially knowing a lot of the people that I share these social networking sites with in real life. I often wonder why they never express the same things when I see them in passing? Yet they hit you up as if it were so easy for them to do! Language sounding so confident...whether negative or positive. Some people even pretend not to know each other in public...but are "friends" online. The computer screen is so easy to hide behind!

I will wrap it up by saying this...Be careful about reacting emotionally to quickly online! Think about your words carefully! Language is often and easily misinterpreted through these forms of communication. Relationships (personal and professional) are damaged sometimes beyond repair over these issues, so I just say be careful!!! As they say...don't write checks that your ass can't cash! And in this case...don't be someone online that you can't produce in person!!! That's all I have to say about that!!! *in my Forrest Gump voice*

The New Pu@$! Factor...men and cheating

I've been trying to write this post for the last few years! lol! I think its something that all women need to hear and understand...if nothing else to know what role you are playing in the situation. This blog is about "New Pu$$y"!!! You may not like the word, and yes I could say it differently, but I'ma keep it real! It is what it is!!!
LADIES!!! We have all experienced infidelity in some way, shape, form, or fashion...Either you were the one cheated on, with,or the one who knew about it all! Women are constantly advising each other about how to deal with a "cheating ass man"...and to be quite honest! Most women are completely in la la land when it comes to why mean cheat! As I have said before, and will continue to scream to the mountain tops is MEN ARE SIMPLE!!! And so is there thought process...
Men crave variety! Just because they love your look doesn't mean that they don't find something beautiful in the next one (whether you do or not)! I've been told that a man can find something attractive in just about any woman...could be her eyes or her lips, her thighs, her long hair, a number of things. So that brings me to the meat of this sandwich!
Men don't cheat because the next chick is prettier than you!!!! Or even because she has a better body, smarter, more money, or any of that! So you can stop pondering over what the next chick has on you? And you can stop talking about how ugly and fat the girl is that he cheated with...Its not about that! The answer is simple! New Pu$$y! Its not about what she looks like (remember I just said that men can find something "fuckable aka attractive" in just about any woman!) And if that woman makes it convenient, he is often more than willing to take advantage of the opportunity. The balance of convenience and opportunity is where the cracks are to fall through. When it comes to sex, men want what's easy! They don't want to jump through hoops to bust a nut! Cause that is exactly what it is.
Men have an ability to seperate sex and emotion that majority of women don't have! (I think I've said before that women equate sex with emotion). They can very well do whatever in the street,come home, kiss their wife, crawl in the bed, and not think twice about it...because to them the love they have for their woman is "real", and the sex a just a physical interaction.
Its not an excuse for men to cheat, its making women aware of the way men think!!! Think of it as Pu$$y Power! Once you are equipped with the info, then you know how to handle men better! Men and women are socialized completely different since birth! We are taught to save ourselves for the prince in shining armour and they are taught to play the field as much as possible until they get good and ready to settle down. So it makes since that having that variety can be a hard habit to break. But you can't control others, all u can control is yourself! Knowing is half the battle(*in my GI Joe voice* lol) ..I will stop here! I could go on all day...but I would looooove to hear your comments!!! :)

How does it feel? Looking at my work in the industry...

People ask me all of the time how it feels to see my work in magazines and on tv? And as much as I would like to be completely smitten by it...its always bittersweet for me. Don't get me wrong...I am very proud of my accomplishments! But I critique myself soooo hard! All that I can see is imperfection, and everything that I coulda, woulda, shoulda done. "Next time I will go harder on this", "Next time I need to blend this more", "Next time I will try this color"...constant mental notation!!! At times I wish I could get that "innocent" eye back. The eye that never knew the jargon and rigamaro of the make up industry...the detail and complexity of all that goes into beating a face. So I can simply see my work like others do. I am aware that everyone is harder on themselves, I see women do it all the time! But having your work across the pages and TV screens of America is a little different. I never want to be caught without my best foot forward! I don't think I will ever be "satisfied"...I honestly think I will be as critical of myself in 10 years as I am now! lol! But I guess, at the end of the day, this is why I am going to make it in this industry!!! This is only the beginning! I will get to where I am going! Or surely die trying!

I'm a little late on this...but If you don't know, I was a key make up artist on "Fantasia For Real"!!! This episode especially brought back memories, because I also did Tasia's Make Up for The 75th Anniversary Apollo Theater! It was a super exciting experience!!! I was honored they allowed me to tag along ;)...

I was in the company of Black Legends like Quincy Jones, Patti LaBelle, and Prince!!! Yes! I saw Prince!!!(In real life and I am such a groupie about it #don't judge me) The theater itself was old! In the best way...we'll say "vintage"! If only those walls could talk! Tasia's dressing room was the same one KiKi Shepard used her whole career!

(She came in and told Tasia that at the end. Tasia even switched earrings with me right before the performance! lol! So those are my earrings on the show! That girl loves to take my stuff! But I don't mind a bit! She has been such a blessing to me!

I absolutely love watching her perform too! She can't sing with her shoes on! And she HAS to run out in the crowd! She literally pulls people out of their seats! Even when they try to act stuck up! This crowd was a little dry, but she got the standing "O" by the time she got off that stage anyway!!! POW!!!

Nature Rise...;) A few Natural Remedies

1. Want a beautiful white smile? There's a wonderful way to whiten naturally! PEROXIDE!!!!! People are always telling me my teeth are super white! And this is the reason! I rinse with peroxide every single day! I love the way it bubbles up and gets the germs off my tongue too! The first few times may tingle quite a bit...but just think of it as killin major germs! It will get better with regular use...;D

2. Got a pesky pimple? Lemon Juice and Neosporin! The vitamin c in the lemon juice acts as an antioxidant to help cleanse and the neosporin is the medicine to treat and heal! I found this treatment from one of my huge asian weddings I did! And followed up with my esthetician! She confirmed what both ingredients would do...who knew? *Kanye Shrug* This remedie will literally pull the plug out of a pimple over night!

3. Dry Cracked Heels? Summer or Winter no worries!!! VASELINE! Not petroleum jelly! or any other brand!!! (I've tried, nothing is better!) Put the Vaseline on the feet and heels right outa the shower! While the skin is still moist! Your feet will be moisturized all day long! I've been doing this for years! And I cannot live with out my good ol' Vaseline!!!

4.Best thing for your body and skin over all? CLEANSING!!! Clears skin! Sheds pounds! Removes toxins! Everyone should at least once a year! (of course check with your medical provider first!) I highly recommend The Master Cleanse! It is a rather extreme method...but if you mentally prepare yourself it is more than worth the results! If you aren't quite ready for a cleanse ...There are also great superfoods like Wheatgrass, Spirulina, Mangosteen...great things to improve your skin and body from the inside! Look them up and incorporate them into your routine!

I personally enjoy a Mean Green Smoothie from Berry Brook Farms off of East Blvd in Dilworth! I add a shot of wheatgrass! I have at least 2 or 3 a week! It is super deelish! My girl Savannah hooks me up!!! ;)

Me and My Love affair with the Morning

There is something about the morning time...the freshness it brings to life! When you take a deep breath of a new day! There something special in that! Nothing like the stale air of the night...where all the problems of the day have settled. I have found new meaning, in the morning! A brand new day feels like potential at its best!
Love feels good in the morning! Real love that is...not that it doesn't at any other time, but especially in the morning. To look over at the one you love in the morning, is a whole different feeling. When you can look past the superficiality of the evening...the bells and whistles of good looks and nice clothes and money! In the morning, the only thing left is them...the real person. The eye boogers and stank breath...no make up and hair all tore up! The tight clothes that held it all together, are now gone and letting it all hang out! After all that is gone, do you still love or even like this person? The morning brings the truth!
...all the mystery of the night is washed away by the morning. The late night showers wash away the sins of the evening to bring about the blessings of the morning! I think God can hear you better in the morning... the noise of reality hasn't even had a chance to started yet. The quiet combined with the honesty makes it easier for God to understand what we really need! The morning is a blessing in itself! To think about the many who were not allowed to claim another morning! Its always a chance to turn it all around! To start over! To start fresh! To try again! To feel brand new! To do things different! To make it happen!
Not long after I open my eyes, my mind starts to flood with thoughts! So much so till I almost have anxiety if I don't get up and put those ideas to some use.
My mother loves the morning too...always has! When I was little and still til this day, she would get up around 3 or 4am(if not a little earlier) and she called it "her time". When I would awake, I was always mesmerized to find her , with food cooking and clothes washing, writing in her journal, or doing SOMETHING! lol...but never asleep. She always said her mind worked better in the morning. I guess that's where I get it from...either way I have claimed the morning as my own...each and every one! The good news is...you can have one too! :)

Whip Lash!!!! All about lashes! and Crackin the Whip!!!

Ok! Ok! Ok! Enough!!!! I have got to get this off my chest!!! This one is about these lashes!!! Okay ladies! Let's be realistic here...2 or 3 years ago! You could care less about walking around Walmart or the grocery store without a pair of lashes on! So why is it that you feel "naked" without them now? Let's not feed into the hype of the beauty industry! I am all for enhancing what you have and looking your best! I mean for God sake! I'm a make up artist, of course I think you should look and feel good! But I cannot continue to condone this mess! Especially when it starts to make my job harder! All I am trying to say is, you out shopping or running in your sweats, with these dramatic lashes on looks silly! And trust me, its not just to me! Lots of people can see it! I'm just the one to tell you the truth! If you are going to sport a dramatic lash! There is a time and place for it...and honey, it ain't at Wally World! Here are a few tips about fake lashes!!!

Signs you need to throw them away!!!
1. They are flat on one side and flipped up on the other(have lost the original shape)
2. Crusty glue is caked up on the band( are you really gona put more on there and glue that sucker on?)
3. You can still see the eye shadow from the last make up application(The lash should stand out)
4. One lash is now distinctively different looking from the other(just let it go baby)

Some women will re-use a lash until they are literally falling apart! No ma'am! these are your eyes! Sensitive to bacteria...just get a new pair!!! They will look fresh and your eyes will thank you! I suggest re-using a lash 1, and maybe 2 times...

Signs you need to stop wearing individuals(or stop going to who's doing them)
Your natural lashes have disappeared(If the follicle is damaged, they may not grow back!!!)
You can feel hard glue caked up in your eyes (sometimes it can be felt everytime u close them)
If they look completely unnatural(dramatic is great for an evening, or photoshoot...but if they don't resemble anywhere near your natural lashes, it is a #fail)
When I can clearly see the blob of glue at the base of your lashes (I don't care if its black, I can still see it!!!)

Individual lashes ideally should be attatched to the strands of your natural lashes...that way they can naturally fall away without damaging your own. Attatching them to the base may cause your own to be pulled out (especially when there is so much glue they will not fall naturally)! And that is not OK!!! You should be able to see seperation! A black mass at the base of your lashes means that they have been applied incorrectly! Lash extensions should "enhance" and not "distract"...

Just remember you get what you pay for! Cheap does not mean better deal, and you should always think quality over quantity!!! Just because a hair stylist or some other non- liscensed professional type is "doing everybody" doesn't mean that they are providing a quality service! Individual lashes take time! A lot of it at that! I have seen them beautifully done! And when they are done right, they can be absolutely breath taking! But I have also seen horrible monstrosities! And people who can no longer grow lashes because of severe damage!

Feather lashes and other "Fantasy" styles should also be worn when appropriate! And try wearing some additional make up with the lashes to complete the look! Some of you already have beautiful lashes! And if you are educated on the application of mascara you would be sooo suprised at what a little Dior Show can do!!! Tips for Dry Winter Lips!

The Winter tends to suck the moisture out of everything...especially your lips! Here are a few tips to keep your lips ready for winter kissin and snugglin! ;)

Of course you can spend tons of money on "lip exfoliators" from your favorite product lines...but doing the natural thing is much sweeter! :) Here are a few suggestions for exfoliating dry skin from the lips. Once you slough off that dead skin...a soft pout is there waiting to be revealed!

1. Take olive oil and add a pinch of brown sugar. Dab on your lips and let sit for a minute. Then take a wet wash cloth, or use your finger, and gently rub it back and forth. Rinse with water.

2. Half a Lemon dipped in sugar...If you want smooth, soft lips, try this. Take a fresh lemon and cut it in half, then rub the lemon in sugar. Apply the lemon with the sugar on it to your lips in a circular motion. After this rinse your lips, with ice cold water. The results are amazing. Apply chapstick or lip balm to keep lips feeling soft.

3. Exfoliate lips with a wet toothbrush or cloth then apply liquid honey as a natural alternative to lipbalm or gloss

One Lip Balm I absolutely Loooove.... Jelly Balm by L'Oreal HIP! Feels great! With the slightest bit of color! Very soothing...and doesn't feel like a cream that just sits on top of your lips! It gets it in! And you dont have to reapply every 5 seconds...though you might want to cause it feels soooo good! Mac also has a nice lip conditioner as well...

The key to making your lips look great is moisture! The moisture can't get in if you have all that flaky stuff on top...so that's what the exfoliation tips are for...after that you want to moisturize! (Can't say that enough) Vaseline and Carmex are not moisturizers!!!!!! They protect and treat! They actually keep moisture from getting in(as in to protect wounds, cuts, and sores)...which is why it becomes "addictive". So try something that is just your lips. You always want to start your routine this way regardless! Its the way to prep them for lipsticks and glosses! And will help it last longer all day! (If you put shiny gloss on top of cracked lips it will just show the cracks more! Shine enhances texture!)I could go on and on! But I'll stop here... Hope these tips are helpful! Kisses! ;-*

I view a lot my clients like dear friends! We always get into great conversations about men and the topic that came up was "Why do we ignore the red flags"? Some of the things we deal with just to have a man around! Come on ladies! Some of yal need to wake up!

1. Number one! Men are very simple!(In more ways than one...hehehe)If he has told you...point blank "I don't want a relationship" "I am not wanting to take this any further""I enjoy our friendship". Don't set yourself up for heartbreak! Nobody likes to feel rejected! But If his feelings are not on the same levels as yours...Its not ok for him to run around playing the field while you sit and wait for him to get it outa his system! its best that you free yourself up for someone that will have your best intrests in mind, ;) Plus there is nothing wrong with giving him a little healthy competition!

2. Three strikes you're out! I believe in giving chances...but I do not believe in being a glutton for punishment!!! First time he makes a mistake shame on him...the next time shame on you! Approaching the third time...what else do you need to see honey? If you continue to deal with his mess, he now feels that the ball is in his court and that you will deal with whatever he dishes out! And why blame him? You are! Place some value on yourself and move forward! Its better to get him outa your system now, than to invest any more emotion than you already have... That goes for any mistake (cheating, standing you up, disregarding your feelings...etc.). If he continues to hurt you over and over again...it simply means he has no respect for your feelings...apologies become empty when the person knew what they were doin in the first place.

3 Actions speak louder than words! If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...well sweet pea! It ain't a giraffe! If his actions are not matching his words...go with your gut! If the only time he can make you feel anything is when he is almost inside of you...beware! Men know how to show love...they just choose who they are gona show it too! And if he is not spending that quality time with you...more than likely he is spending it with someone else! Humans are bred for companionship...its just a fact of life! You don't have to kick, scream or cry to get a man to be around if he wants to! Trust me! If you feel like somn just doesn't add up! Do u really want to wait around to let it slap you in the face? There is someone out there who just IS that person...and he will make you feel excatly the way you want to! Don't miss out on Mr. Right cause you are all caught up with Mr. Wrong...

4. Stop waisting time! A man knows when he is ready to settle down...it doesnt take him 10 years (in which I have been a victim myself) to figure it out! They have this "idea" of who wifey is in there head, and if they are moving in that direction, they will certainly let you know! They say men marry for timing...and women marry for love. All that is to say that it doesn't matter how pretty you are, how good in bed, or how big yo booty is! He knows how far he is going to take it with you, damn near the first time he meets you!!! If he gets comfortable, its because we allow it! Cookin and cleanin and birthin babies for someone who has no plans of being your husband is cool for him, but silly of you! What are you gettin out of the deal? Those are the duties of a wife, you hold off until he put-a-ring on it!!! Every once in a while is ok...just not all the time! Men like the chase...so why not give them somethin to work for?

5. Watch his relationships...How does he get along with his mom? Sisters, friends, mother of his children? This is super important! And it will reveal more than he will ever be able to tell you! If he has never seen or had healthy relationships...this can be a real issue down the line in terms of commitment and stability. Everyone has a story, yes, and all is not sweet. But this can be a huge red flag...and often the hardest to look over! So don't! Be observant, and ask questions...with timing and tact in mind of course!

Wanted to start spotlighting local people that I would like share with the world! and I am going to start with my 2 besties! Carol Bady and Nakiesha Nance...both are Assistant Managers for MAC Cosmetics! I am so proud of them! We all started working together at Eastland Mall back in the day! And both of them have climbed the corporate ladder to makes moves in the MAC world! And needless to say that both of these ladies are phenominal MUA's!!! If you need to purchase MAC Cosmetics...these are the ladies to go to in the QC!!!

Carol...the lover of a Red Lip!!! POW!!! Carol is patient and thorough! She takes her time with each client and makes them feel well attended to! She is an awesome at teaching techniques...and super knowledgeable about product and ingredients! I would describe her personal make up style as conservative with a POP! This young lady can do it all! Kudos to Carol! Go see her at the counter @ Belk in Northlake Mall, Charlotte, NC. Tell her I sent ya! She da bestest!

Nakeisha...the superwoman! Nakeisha is a super communicator! She will make sure that you get exactly what you're looking for! She is also extremeley patient with clients and well versed in product knowledge! She is great to talk to if you have super sensitive skin! Superb with matching foundation! I would describe her personal make up style as soft and glamorous! This lady will BEAT yo mug! lol Go see her in Southpark Mall in Charlotte NC...at the counter in Belk or the Outpost Store

I love my friends sooooooo much! They have supported me through thick and thin! Doesn't hurt at all that they are super talented too! Birds of a featha I guess ;)...If you need MAC...you know where day at! POW!!!

The Fantasia For Real Show Premiers Jan 11th, 2010!!!

It's finally here!!! I can not believe it!!! The Fantasia For Real Show premiers Jan 11, 2010!!! And my make up work will be broadcast across the world! Wow! What a feeling! I did not talk much at all about the project I worked on all summer long...but you all will be able to see the journey none the less! I really love this young lady! She is a beautiful person with a beautiful spirit! And I look forward to watching the world fall in love with her again! The whole team was a real pleasure to work with!!!

Tasia's make up style is super natural!!! She did not care for make up at all when we first met! (Which was part of why I got the gig, people love the natural makeup that I do) Since then...I've been able to warm her up a little ;)....now she is willing to get a little more adventurous with her make up looks. She has beautiful skin too!

The Black Grandma....an Endangered Species..

I had an intresting conversation with one of my pisces homies about...The Extinction of The "Black Grandma". It was a sad realization! In 5 or 10 years there will be no more traditional black grandmas! No one who "just knows what to do"! Knows how to cook everything without a recipe, what to do with new born grandbabies, how to make dollars out of 15 cents, how to cuss you out and squeeze you to death all in the same 15 min, how to make you feel loved without saying a word, how to calm everyone in the family down when there is drama, what to do for a man and definitely what not to do!

As the "babies having babies" epidemic has spread...grandmothers have gotten younger and younger. So many have had to work so hard to survive, there was no time to really learn that "old school" nurturing spirit. Somewhere in the crossfire the respect for that kind of knowledge was lost too. Now kids don't even have enough respect for those "grandma's to not curse around them, and simply act like someone raised them right! Its sad to think about :("

I never even had grandparents...my parents were a little older, so all of them passed before I got to know them. But my mom still has the old school mentality...I pray that my children get a whole lot of that before she leaves this earth. One of my goals in the new year is also make more of an effort to spend time with her...to learn more about the old school way. Once these women are gone...there won't be a book to read or website to go to. Its in them, and the only way to learn is to spend time. So the next time your mom calls and says "You haven't come over" or your grandma calls with her sweet little old voice...just think about spending a little more time. Tomorrow is never promised...

We Off Dat!
1. A Bunch of color on the eyes...gone are the days of wearing 15 colors on the eyes, even if they are perfectly blended. and shadow to match your outfit perfectly is totally not necessary...theres always exceptions to the rule, but for the most part, hmmm I'll pass!!
2. Not wearing any type of foundation or powder to your make up look....ugh! huge mistake. We all want to look natural...but the key is to look "Flawless" ;)! There are so many lightweight options for coverage out today, there's hardly an excuse. Having on eye makeup and lipgloss simply looks incomplete with at least a finishing powder to even out the skin tone. You see product on the eyes and lips, and nothing on the face. I encourage you to try a pressed or mineral powder with your routine! I guarantee you will love the difference!( I want to hear if you try it and what u think)

3.Dark lines on the lip...its been out for a while...please let it go. that is all
4.Super thin brows...
5.Closed minds...I hate when women say "they don't wear makeup"!!! You don't have to wear it all the time, but there is nothing wrong with looking your best! Make Up just enhances wat you have...if you don't like the color, you can simply wipe it off and try something else

We Still On-at
1. Clean and simple eyes with warm earthtones for day and Dark smoky eyes for night! Cream shadows are all the rage!

2. Blush! Pow! Blush is my favorite thing in THE WORLD!!! It really wakes your face up! So many great ways to wear it, from subtle to vibrant! If you haven't tried it, you should! Especially my chocolate girls!!! ;)
3 Glossy shimmery lips! But don't forget about matte lips too ;-* Red lips are a must try this season! If you wana rock color! Rock it in the cheeks and lips! POW!!!
4. A lot of women I run into have over tweezed, plucked, and or razored brows...if this is the case! Start to let your brows grow out right now! Yes! I know it will be hard! But it will be worth it! Have them shaped by someone who knows wat they're doing! Until then you can learn to disguise them with a little make up magic ;)...details coming soon!!
5. Here in Charlotte...there seems to be a lot of women who are scared of make up! But trust me! There is something out there for you. and don't be afraid to try color! I always say anybody can really wear just about anything...its just knowing how to blend it for your skintone.

Why the Club is Wack! (Im jus sayin)

At the ripe old age of 28...I have had my fair share of days to party! And the older I get...the more that I can see that the whole experience of "The club" is WACK!!! And its pretty sad because our whole present culture is based around "The Club"! What we wear, what we drink, how much money we "need" and other frivolous material things. All for a couple hours in a dark building with a bunch of drunk people who won't remember half of it the next day! (smh)

First off! Men and women don't even go to the club for the same reasons! The girls are there to "Pull a baller" or should we say a trick for the evening or at least the next few light bills. We spend a ton of money on the outfit, the hair, the accessories,the nails and the make up ...that most of us don't even have the money to buy a top shelf drink after all that! The fellas are lookin for the easiest thing to take home "that night" and that night only he's definitely not lookin for "wifey"! and at the end of the day she don't even have to be cute! long as she got "a phat ass" (so yea...all your hard work getting ready just went out the window)...and his pre determined relationship (wife, baby mama, girlfriend, friend with benefits, etc! etc!) is completely out of the window! So after this night of "fun" in some way, shape, form or fashion...he will inevitably become a problem! Chicks go to be objects of affection and attention. Men go to find a jump off...
You have to be drunk to even be able to tolerate it! That is the drunk people stumbling, yelling, and showin out! You can't have a conversation because the music is too loud! Guys are mad because their vulgar passes and groping aren't "turning you on" and the girls are ice grillin you from the roota to the toota when they should really just say "I like your outfit". (The girls wearin the shit they have no biz is a whole nother blog)And if you aren't in VIP...you might as well forget it! Yo ass is not gettin a seat (and if you do, yo ass ain't movin all night just to keep it!) You can count on your feet being half numb when u leave!

Not to meantion standing in a line for an hour just to get into the overcrowded club that has no seats to sit in. When you have your fabulous shoes and outfit on that you spent your whole "friday night just got paid" check on! Just to bump into mofo's all night long who won't move when you scream "EXCUSE ME" over the loud ass music that no one can hear over anyway!And all of this is for what? To take a few pics to look like your having fun, and put em on facebook? To show the rest of the social media world that you fit the bill? To drink Nuvo and "Pop Bottles" like the rappers do? I'm jus sayin...

Isn't it all somebody elses "stereotype" of what a good time is?
Don't get me wrong...I love to enjoy a good time with friends. But I like to be able to hear them and talk to them...to kick it without people bumping into us and not to take 30 min to get from one side of the building to the other, just to go and use the bathroom! All I'm sayin is I'm real enough to admit that that shit ain't fun to me!!! I can't be the only one! I just ask that the next time you are at the club...look around. Do you really think everybody is havin fun? Or do they just think they are?
